Gary always treats me well. He doesn't ever try to upsell over over diagnose. They do rework for free if needed. Very honest and a great mechanic. Highly recommend.

I received exquisite service from Gary and his crew. Gary is the kindest and most genuine person! He and his crew are incredibly knowledgeable with what they do. I came in for a taillight repair and with no appointment and he stopped and helped me immediately. They repaired my light within the hour with no hesitation. Without question, I 100% recommend to come to Gary's Automotive Repair if you have any type of car trouble. I will always be coming to Gary's from now on!

As a student moving to Corvallis from out-of-state, I figured I was going to have to go through some rough car repairs before finding a competent mechanic. Luckily, I went to Gary's first and hit the nail on the head from the get go.

My experience with Gary started almost immediately after I arrived in Corvallis two years ago. My girlfriend's mother helped move us to town, and on the way her vehicle started to act very suspiciously. (stopping randomly on the highway, overheating, spitting smoke) Safe to say, we were in need of a mechanic. Gary's Automotive was right by our new apartment, so we took the grumpy van in. Gary was able to get the van in right away and fix it in time for everyone to get home on time, at a reasonable price to boot.

Since then, I've taken two different vehicles to Gary on many occasions for anything from oil changes to timing belt replacements. He's always very diligent in explaining to me what work needs to be completed and why. The work is always completed on time for under the quoted price. He also guarantees his work for a year, which, to me, gives some peace of mind when you're spending money on a repair.

Anywho, Gary and the employees of Gary's Automotive are extremely competent professionals who have always proven to be fair and honest in the interactions I have had. I recommend their services.

Service requested was completed on time. Second time I've had my truck there for service. Polite, professional people who do what they say for a reasonable price.

Whenever I get a choice I will choose to have my cars repaired at Gary's! Whatever wait time they say you'll have to wait is so worth it! They are honest and, in my experience, and their charges consistently come out to less than the quoted amount. One time my husband took our old 4 runner in. The mechanic spent an hour diagnosing the problem. Gary didn't think his conclusion sounded right and went to check for himself. Apparently the problem was that we had gotten it stuck between 4 wheel drive and the other option. He popped it into place and told us it was no charge because the hour of pay for his mechanic was worth the look on his mechanics face when he told him what the actual problem was.

I've been taking my car to Gary's for several years now and always had good experiences. They are very friendly, take the time to explain things thoroughly to you, and I definitely feel that I can trust them. Gary is such a nice guy too.

Fast friendly service. Went in for an oil change. They gave me exactly what I asked for with no up selling for extra items. Service was finished before the time they estimated.

After my partner had a positive experience here, I decided to try them out with my vehicle. I was more than impressed. They're everything these reviews say they are. Gary is very personable and he and his staff are very knowledgeable about automotive repair. Recently I had to take my car in last minute after I got run off the road and a piece of metal was hanging below my car. He told me to to bring it in immediately and accommodated a visit like this. They repaired the damage and did a very thorough job looking over the rest of the car. They were more than reasonable regarding the price to fix it. So, I'd also say that they're reliable and more than willing to help out. I know sometimes it's harder to get your car in than others; but that just shows how high in demand their services are. They're that good. I highly recommend them.

Gary is just a good guy, period. It's reflected in the mechanics that work for him, their honesty, and the quality of work they do. There are several good auto shops here in Corvallis, but Gary's is the best and we've never had any reason to look elsewhere.

  • *****

Everyone was so helpful and caring! Explained my problem and got in a few days later! Will be going to them for all of my automotive needs!

This shop is timely, fair, and does a great job. Gary had me take my car out wth one of his mechanics for a test drive to see what was wrong, I scheduled for a time to bring it in, and it was fixed by 2 in the afternoon (appointment was at 8). I will definitely be coming back!

Immediately after leaving my mother-in-law's house Wednesday afternoon the smog pump on my F150 failed leading to a loud belt screech. Pulling in to Jerry's Muffler I confirmed a belt noise. Jerry pointed me to the closest auto shop, Auto Tech on 4th street. Fully booked for the day the receptionist called Gary's Automotive, http://www.corvallisautomechanic.com/, and confirmed that they were able to help me immediately.
On arrival, a team member was in the street waiting for me and pointed me into the shop. Calling local parts houses the team at Gary's tried to find a temporary fix that would allow me to get home. At 5:15 PM Gary called his Portland parts supplier and ordered a new smog pump and confirmed it would arrive early Thursday AM.
Gary dropped me off at Mom's house for an unexpected vacation. I spent the night enjoying the company of my mother-in-law,
brother-in-law, John and his daughter Natalie.
I called at 9:15 AM Thursday to check on the progress of the truck repair and was told the new pump and serpentine belt had been installed and the truck would be road worthy by 9:30. The rest of the trip home was uneventful. I arrived home in time to clean up and attend the monthly Lilliwaup Community Club pot luck dinner with Jane.
I've had lots of customer service experiences over the years and I want to applaud all three Corvallis shops, one that helped me find a repair center, one that (while unable to help me themselves) found a competitor that was able to help and Gary's Automotive on 2nd Street that went out of their way to take care of a stranded traveler.
I also want to say that my unexpected vacation was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family.

Great, local business. Gary and his crew get the job done and do it well. Gary himself is great at explaining what work is necessary, what they will do, and what it will cost.

Feel car-illiterate? No worries - just ask them whatever seemingly dumb questions you may have and they'll break it down for you!

  • *****

They were able to fix an idling probelm on my car that no one else had been able to for the past several years. They got my car in the morning after I called and the repair was cheaper than expected.

  • *****

Only place I will take my car from now on! Gary was incredibly nice and helpful, and only charged me for the part of my car that needed replacing. The whole trip cost me $20, and he even took the time to explain to me what was wrong and all the different ways he checked to be sure that nothing else was wrong. Sad I'll be leaving the area soon, otherwise this is the only place I would ever go.
Down side is that sometimes you have to call multiple times to get a hold of anyone, but that's really a small price to pay for great service.

I'm writing this review because I took my car to Gary's based off of reviews I read so I hope this helps others: The power steering randomly went out in my car and a few different dash lights showed up. I called around town to get estimates/see what multiple mechanics thought might be wrong and we all came to the conclusion it was more than likely I lost my drive belt and would need it replaced. Even though that was the consensus the Ford dealership told me it would cost at least $100 just to run a diagnosis to know for sure. Gary told me he would look at it free of charge. He also only charges $80/hour, as opposed to the $100/hour everyone else seems to charge. Ford dealership, among other mechanics, said they couldn't get me in for at least a week. I had my car towed to Gary's and the next day it was done. I have had no problems thus far and I recommended my friend to them. They looked at his car free of charge, did some small work (rotors I believe he said) and didn't charge him for anything because they had to send him to a dealership because there was some issue they couldn't detect. He said he loved the guys too, honest, friendly, fast. I would recommend anybody in the area to them

Le cambiaron pastillas y un disco de freno a mi suv. Trabajan bien y en termino pero no son baratos.

Gary is so friendly and honest guy. Also people who working there are so friendly as well. They get the work done really fast and provide the best quality job that i have found in town. I would definitely come back to get service here and will recommend people to come here as well.

I went in thinking I would need new break pads. They gave me a free break inspection, and my car ended up being fine. They even showed me my break pads and explained it to me, which was super helpful since I know nothing about cars.
Great customer service, so helpful and welcoming!

I've been taking my older Subaru to Gary's for several years now and always had good experiences. They are very friendly, take the time to explain things thoroughly to you, and I feel that I can trust them.

Bit hard to get a hold of on the phone but otherwise great service, super friendly guys. Even took the time to show me exactly what was wrong with my car. Only shop I'll use in Corvallis.

I broke down on my commute to work very early in the morning. Not knowing anything about cars and feelin a bit vulnerable, i asked the tow truck driver if he could recommend a macanic. His firs choice was Gary's. My Dad also had some work done at Gary's and was really pleased. This was enough for me. It was the weekend, so they weren't open but i towed my Suzuki XL 7 to his lot and parked it. From the very first interaction with Gary and his staff i was extremely pleased. They are honest and upfront. They worked very hard to find the issue with my Suzuki. I was shocked when they towed my car free of charge to another macanic and didnt charge me for the work or time they put into it. Shocked and extremely thankful. The other macanic said my engine was blown and refured me back to Gary's. Engine work sounds a little scary and alot expensive. Because i was still making payments and absolutely needed my car to get to work, i was feeling alot of pressure to get it fixed as soon as possible. Gary didn't take advantage of my situation. I was shocked again when he gave me a estimate to fix my Suzuki and then told me to sleep on it because he knew it was more than the amount i had left to pay for my car... He was so honest, gave me time to figure out what would be in my best interest instead of making a emotional decision and even gave me advice. Again, not knowing anything about cars, he could have have really taken advantage. If i ever have any issues with my cars in the future, i know exactly where to go. Their honesty has got them a customer for life. Im so thankful... GARY AND STAFF!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Hand's down the best experience I have ever had with a repair shop. Gary and all his guys are friendly, honest, informative, and do great work. They worked with me on multiple occasions doing repairs as I could afford them. They took the time to explain what was wrong, showed me the broken parts, and were always able to fit me into their busy schedule. Not only are their prices the best in town but they have the best customer service of any shop. They worked with me on multiple issues and were honest with what repairs I could accomplish myself. I am so thankful to have taken the old Subaru here.

Gary is not only extremely knowledgeable about vehicles and able to diagnose just about anything that's going on, but he's also about as honest and nice as they come. I've been taking my employer's fleet to Gary and have been very happy with the work, the prices, his helpful staff, and the great customer service - and now I plan to bring my personal vehicles to him as well.

Gary is kind, generous, and absolutely trustworthy. He and his mechanics do great work. He has been my mechanic for 15 years. I'm so grateful.

Got my car fixed while up at OSU. I came home for the summer and a part went haywire. I called Gary up because he put it in and he took care of everything! I got it into a shop down in my hometown and got it fixed. Gary's is the best!

  • *****

Gary's is great! I called to get an estimate and he told me all my options while giving me his professional opinion. He wasn't trying to rip me off, he was really honest. I wasn't sure if i was going to be able to pick up my car the same day and he said i could leave it there until i could! He is extremely nice and honest. As a college student who doesn't know much about cars i feel and know i can trust him and will return for all my future repairs and check ups! thanks gary!

So far bad communication from Gary.
His best line: "I'll call you when I know something." He must no nothing as he doesn't call when he says he's going to.
I had my first hint on day one. Set it aside and still I wait. Don't say you're going to call and then not. It's stressful for the consumer. First line of being a good business is knowing that although you do this everyday your customers do not and no communication can be stressful and a customer service breaker. Wish I had for to Landon's now.

Well I was tired of waiting so I went in. Gary was very communicative as well as the mechanic that worked on my car. I was getting nervous as I wasn't sure if problem-could have been a big expense-the mechanic and Gary spelled it all out. Very happy w/ communication in person. The shop was super busy and phone rang a lot when I was there. He took the time to explain it all. My feeling and experience is a lot better now. One just has to take the initiative. I think best advice is to not expect a call back until late afternoon and if your need more then go in personally-if possible.

Gary's Auto deserves a 10 star review! He is honest, reliable, knowledgable and gets the job done for a reasonable price - even the towing guys thinks he's great - I've entrusted my car to him 4 times (1992 Camry) and have been very happy with the results!! He's keeping my old car on the road!! Thank you Gary!!

  • *****

Always honest, always knowledgeable, always courteous and reasonably priced. Gary is a gem .. you know you can trust him. He makes it a point to look for the best possible way to get your needs met with the least expense. His shop isn't as big and flashy as some of the big boys around town (dealers and such), but don't let it fool you - the quality of work and the price are unbelievably good!

Gary helped me out on a day he was jammed up, because he said he would. He's me new favorite businessman role model!

Gary is very friendly and his prices are reasonable. I'll continue to take my car.

My daughter attends school at OSU. Here car developed an engine problem but I was unable to look at it since we live so far away. She knows little about cars and was clearly at the mercy of an auto repair shop. She took her car to Gary's Automotive. He spent about 45 minutes on the car, fixed the problem, and at a nominal charge. I have never written a review before, but thought this experience warranted some positive feedback. If you are in need of service, I strongly recommend Gary's Automotive.

O.K. So, I don't want to sound like all the other reviewers, but.....uuuuuh....I am. This guy is GREAT! I, too, have a kid at OSU and was worried about not being present when my daughter needed to take her vehicle in for repairs. Gary has worked on my daughter's vehicle several times for several issues over the last four years (the number of times refers to the crappy quality of my daughter's vehicle, not poor work on Gary's part). Gary has always been completely honest and fair in regard to any repairs that have been necessary. He makes every effort to keep costs at a minimum which is greatly appreciated by my daughter who is trying to be financially independent. Furthermore, on more than one occasion, he has diagnosed either no problem or a minor problem that could easily be fixed by my daughter on her own. He did not charge for any of these occasions even though they obviously used up a portion of his day. I wish I could clone Gary and his business philosophy and put him in every town/city. Sadly, in this day and age, most people feel like they have to be hyper-vigilant to avoid being ripped off. Gary is a welcome exception to this rule. Thanks again, Gary. God bless you, brother!!!!

Just had work done there, great quote, honest service - no upselling. He even threw some work in free. Only downsides: 1) I wanted a number of things done and had to remind him of the smaller jobs, 2) it took longer than originally planned. I've a feeling that #2 is part of why I got one of the pieces of work done for free (the cost was 99.9% labor). I recommend the shop, with the caveat that if you have several jobs to be done (e.g. brakes, tail light replacement, and AC refill) - bring the list in on paper and hand it to him. FWIW, I'm taking my other car there next week.

I have taken a few cars to Gary's now and I have been meaning to write this review for months now.  I just picked up one of my cars today and again was just completely blown away with how caring they are.

My car had stopped running due to an injector harness (I believe that's what he called it), that had wiggled itself loose.  There was no check engine light code though so I guess they spent quite some time locating the problem.

When I went in to pick it up, Gary said they had spent a good deal of time on the car but since it was such a simple fix he didn't feel right charging me.  I was absolutely blown away.

Thank you so much Gary, you and your mechanics are amazing!

    My goodness, Gary. Bravo!
Thank you previous reviewers for directing me to this establishment. I needed to get my timing belt replaced because I was slightly over the mileage my car manual suggested (oh, ya know, just 40K - whoops!). Gary included the pulley system, new belts, and water pump (since my car's water pump is run by the timing belt) in the quote he gave me. He also assured me that if he found anything else that needed to be replaced he would let me know. With most mechanics, I might assume that someone is pulling my leg if they want to do more things. But Gary was such a genuine man that I knew he was taking care of my car and ultimately making sure I was safe. He even gave me a ride to work in the morning. This dude knows how to do business and I will absolutely be back for more repairs in the future.

I would like to send a huge shout out to Gary and his boys for helping an out of state mom, who's car broke down and he was able to fix it within 24 hours to get me back on the road. I would highly recommend him and his team to assist anyone.

Gary is great! He is honest, friendly and has very reasonable rates. I went in thinking my car needed lots of work but Gary assured me it only needed a little and took great care of it. I walked out feeling so positive about the experience that I won't take my car anywhere else.

Probably the most honest mechanic I've ever met.  First time I went their, it was for a tuneup.  When I came back, he told me I didn't need a tuneup and that something else was wrong.  So instead of charging me for the tuneup and informing me of other problems, he didn't charge me for anything and told me what was really wrong.  This is one of many experiences I've had with Gary and I always feel good actually knowing what's going on with my car instead of wondering and paying for things I'm not really sure need to be done.

  • *****

I went to Gary's to have them look into an exhaust leak and check the breaks on my car.  They assured me that my breaks are fine and told me about the exhaust leak, but suggested that a more specialized exhaust shop would be better suited and probably cheaper to do the fix (due to a lot of rust underneath my car).  The mechanic also took the time to show me a diagram and fully explain the issue.  I walked away with much more information on the problem and an honest account of my options....totally free.  I couldn't believe that they recommended another place because they knew it would save me money! Great people and great service.

I was told by my dealership that my car had a crack in the head gasket and would need replacing as soon as possible... for 1200. Gary quoted me for 1175 tops with a new timing belt and engine seal leaks fixed as well. I took my car in and it turns out my car didn't need work on it at all. He called the dealership and everything to find out what was going on and they told him that my car didn't need that work done at all. I got my car back and I didn't lose a penny sorting this whole thing out. I HIGHLY recommend Gary's Automotive. I'm not taking my car anywhere else ever again!

    Best mechanic in town? Definitely!
Gary is fabulous! I have a 26-year-old Volvo that was leaking radiator fluid. My daughter is an OSU student and uses the car. We live in Portland, so driving the car all the way back for diagnosis/repair wasn't an option. I found Gary online and she dropped off the Volvo early this morning. Gary drove her back home, diagnosed the problem in a few hours (two hoses were loose), filled it with fluid, and he said the car was ready--no charge! I wish I could give him 10 stars, he is that good. In fact, I have taken my car(s) to different mechanics throughout the years--all in Portland--and Gary is the best one to date. I suggest calling him before calling anyone no matter where you live. You won't find a more honest, more efficient or nicer person anywhere. Even if you don't live in Corvallis, it may be worth your time to have him service your vehicle. Thank you, Gary. You are awesome!

Based on great reviews, we decided to get our brakes looked at by Gary and his crew. He was able to get us in within a week and took care of us in a couple of hours. Gary seems very honest and we are happy with our experience at Gary's. We will be taking our vehicle to Gary's if any other issues arise in the future. For our brake service, the pricing was fair and reasonable, based on the comparison between Gary's and other service shops.
